Con mucho agrado los invitamos a participar del minicurso Introduction to Topological Solitons, que dictará el Prof. Richard MacKenzie, de la Université de Montréal, Canadá, los días martes 10, miércoles 11 y jueves 12 de marzo de 2020 en los horarios de 10:30-11:30 y 15:00-16:00 horas (2 clases por día) en la Sala de Conferencia del 3er piso del Departamento de Física.

Lecture 1: Overview of the course. Classical field theory (part 1): Lagrangian, Euler-Lagrange equations, Noether’s Theorem.
 
Lecture 2: Classical field theory (part 2): Spontaneous symmetry breaking, abelian gauge theories, Higgs mechanism, non-abelian gauge theories.
 
Lecture 3: Topological solitons: general discussion. Examples in 1+1 dimensions.
Context: conducting polymers, ferromagnetic domains.
 
Lecture 4: Topological solitons in 2+1 dimensions: Vortices, baby skyrmions.
Context: superconducting vortices.
 
Lecture 5: Topological solitons in 3+1 dimensions (part 1): Monopoles.
Context: topological defects in the early universe; Kibble mechanism.
 
Lecture 6: Topological solitons in 3+1 dimensions (part 2): Skyrmions.
Context: baryons as skyrmions.
